Thomas Andrew Felton (born 22 September 1987)[1] is an English actor, who is best known for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in every film in the Harry Potter film series.
Biography[]
Born in Epsom, Surrey, he grew up in Epsom with his mother, Sharon, his father, Peter, and his three older siblings, Jonathan, Ashley and Chris. Felton first came to attention in 1997 when he was featured in a number of top television commercials, in some of which he took the starring role. He shot to fame, and in 1996 he played the part of Peagreen Clock in Peter Hewitt's The Borrowers, and later as Louis in the film Anna and the King which also starred Jodie Foster. Rumours spread of Tom taking part in the series Home Farm Twins, but the show never came out of cancellation. Before the Harry Potter years, in 1995, he was also known to have performed as the voice of James on the television series "Bugs". More recently though, he has become known for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. "His performances in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 won him two consecutive MTV Movie Awards for Best Villain in 2010 and 2011."
Felton has also been in several later TV series, namely Second Sight I and II playing witness Thomas Ingham opposite Clive Owen. In addition, Felton is a talented singer and has been a member of four choirs during his childhood. Recently, he published his own songs, in coordination with 'Feltbeats' which can be seen on Youtube. He has uploaded many tracks, each featuring him and his guitar. He was even offered a place in the Guildford Cathedral Choir. He also enjoys football, ice-skating, rollerblading, basketball, cricket, swimming and tennis. His favourite pastime is carp fishing. At age 11, he worked in a fishery, partially due to his passion.
His favourite villain in films is Alan Rickman in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves portraying the Sheriff of Nottingham. His favourite Harry Potter characters are Gilderoy Lockhart and Lucius Malfoy.
Felton was nominated and voted in fourteenth place in Portrait Magazine, Top 30 Under 30 2009 List.[2] Felton's fellow Harry Potter co-stars were also nominated; Bonnie Wright who plays Ginny Weasley was in second place, Evanna Lynch who plays Luna Lovegood was in third place, Rupert Grint who plays Ron Weasley was in fifth place, Emma Watson who plays Hermione Granger was in eighth place and Daniel Radcliffe who plays Harry Potter was in eighteenth place in Portrait Magazine, Top 30 Under 30 2009 List.
In 2022, he directed the premiere of the film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.[citation needed]
On 13 October 2022, his memoir Beyond the Wand - The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard was released.[3]
On 5 June 2025, Felton revealed he would be reprising his role as Draco Malfoy as part of the the Broadway Lyric Theatre production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, portraying the role from 11 November 2025 for a 19 week stretch,[4] making him the first cast member of the films to return to their role for the play.

- Felton also appeared on Eight Out of Ten Cats, a comedy panel show about public opinion, news and statistics. It was during this appearance that host, Jimmy Carr, treated him in a comedically patronising manner, (due to his being noticeably younger than the other panellists), particularly at his excitement about the at-the-time new Transformers film.[citation needed]
- Felton was the first of several actors from The Borrowers to appear in the Harry Potter films; others include Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) and Jim Broadbent (Horace Slughorn).
- Felton's real-life ex-girlfriend Jade Olivia plays his on-screen wife Astoria Greengrass in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
- Felton's real hair colour is a dark blond and he has, to date (December 2010), dyed his hair 18 times for the films.[citation needed]
- Due to Draco Malfoy's pale skin, Felton was banned from sun exposure, so he wouldn't get sunburnt or tanned.[citation needed]
- Felton is one of the thirteen actors to appear in all eight Harry Potter films.
- Felton's co-star and on-screen enemy Emma Watson had a crush on Tom in the earlier films.[5]
- Felton was sorted into Gryffindor on Pottermore rather than Slytherin, the house of Draco Malfoy and the one he had personally identified with.[6] Series author J. K. Rowling agreed with this sorting, however, noting that she "could've told [Tom] that years ago".[7]
- Felton has acted alongside both Fiennes brothers - Ralph Fiennes in the Harry Potter films, and Joseph Fiennes in the 2016 film Risen.
- Felton's role as Julian Albert/Dr Alchemy on The Flash also referenced his role as Draco due to the Philosopher's Stone, which the main villain Savitar relied on, as that was also his first movie.
- Emma Watson penned the foreword to Felton's memoir, Beyond the Wand - The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard.[8]
- The day Felton revealed he would be playing Draco Malfoy in the Broadway Lyric Theatre production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child coincidentally is the same day as Draco's birthday.
