Background

I think the white background should be changed -- on Cornelius Fudge's page, the "Order of Merlin" piece at the beginning doesn't show up. See? Should the white background be changed? --HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 12:48, March 29, 2017 (UTC)

It's the CSS styling for <small><a> tags which for some bizarre reason is set to #fff i.e. solid white. You'll need someone with high-level access to fix that, I don't even know where to look on Wikia to find it :-( —Phil | Talk 13:22, March 29, 2017 (UTC)

It's because the background was not white when it was set that way -- it was only recently changed in an overhaul.--HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 13:57, March 29, 2017 (UTC)

Error and missing content on the home page

Hi there; I'm completely confused as to what the cause is, and I want to ask if it's only happening to me (which would be even odder, but still.)

In view source, they clearly are still on the page, but they aren't being displayed. I don't think it's just me, because Main Page is not showing on Category:Harry Potter Wiki, and is listed at Special:Community and Special:Insights/uncategorizedpages for needing to add a category (aka not registered as having been categorized). It is also not shown on

FB3 posters

The Fantastic Beasts characters section should preferrably be switched to Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore posters, and I gave it a try:

Would 4 columns be acceptable? If not, since there're 12 characters in total, they can also be arranged in 3 columns:

The wiki doesn't seem to have a poster like this for Vicência Santos, so I didn't include Anton Vogel and Liu Tao in the gallery, since these three should probably be all in or all out. Oh, I missed it because I was only looking in Category:Images from Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and it wasn't sorted in that one. Then the three can be added, if it's not too long. Also, since it's going to be arranged in three columns, the sequence can probably be changed a bit:

So that row 2 are characters who are/allegedly are from the Dumbledore family, row 4 are Grindelwald and his supporters, and row 5 are other characters related to the Supreme Mugwump election. MalchonC (talk) 17:10, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Theme change

Hogwarts Legacy was released over a year ago, and we no longer need our background to serve as a commercial for the game. Our main articles and content are still focused on the Harry Potter series, not the games (HL, MA, HM, etc.), so I suggest it’s time to update the background to something more Potter-related. I want to propose shifting it to reflect the upcoming TV series, but since we don’t have many images, official details, or promotional materials yet, here’s an alternative suggestion: change the background theme to something similar to the one before the Hogwarts Legacy background, featuring a blend of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts elements, but avoid having characters staring creepily at us while editing or at readers exploring the articles. The homepage can also be updated, moving away from an introduction to the game and instead offering an introduction to the Harry Potter series. This will be a significant change, but not so large that it’s beyond our capability to implement.

What we need now, and I’m confident everyone can contribute greatly, are: agreement (or opposition, if you prefer), suggestions for the background image that introduces people to the main series and the Harry Potter Wiki, and any other ideas you’d like to suggest. For example, we could consider removing the game trailers and related content. Your thoughts and input are highly appreciated. Honestly, I think the HL background is pretty perfect. What could be better than a faceless wizard in a cloak looking upon Hogwarts castle in the distance? Even if it is just a poster for the game, you gotta admit, it's pretty epic.(GoldenOath20 (talk) 09:39, 9 December 2024 (UTC))

I do think the main page should be changed. Yes. If you're looking for a suggestion, I think an image of Platform Nine and Three-Quarters would do nicely. Like this one: B1C6M1 Platform 9¾.jpg

As for introduction, it's not really complicated. Just a couple paragraphs about the prophecized savior boarding the train, studying the magical arts and charging toward his destiny and battling the most terrible dark wizard ever, doing his parents proud, alongside his two best friends, etc. and so forth. I don’t support the idea of having things on the sides of the background. Thinking about it again, there’s actually nothing wrong with the current background. An image of Hogwarts Castle with both light and dark themes, featuring an unknown student in the center, would be epic but not too eye-catching. - Peregino (talk) 23:49, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

I just had a great idea for our background, which will be focused on the upper part rather than the sides. This idea is inspired by the MCU Wiki (check it out there). The backgrounds will feature images from the eleven Potterverse films with seasonal quotes for different months. We will have five background images ready for each season, and when the season arrives, we can change the background to match it. Here’s the plan:

• • • The normal background will say nothing for January, February, March, April, May, July, and August.
    • The second background will say “Happy Pride Month from the HP Wiki” for June.
    • The third background will say “Happy New School Year” for September.
    • The fourth will say “Happy Spooky Season from the HP Wiki” for October.
    • The fifth and final background will say “Happy Holidays from the HP Wiki” for November and December.

We have our own Harry Potter text font, and we can create text with it online using various websites. If anyone knows how to bring multiple images together (probably four to five per background) and blend them with a blending effect, that would be great.

As for the quote and introductions to the Harry Potter Wiki (for the Main Page), I’m working on them and will be done sometime soon. - Peregino (talk) 03:39, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

I somewhat think that, keeping Hogwarts Legacy as the theme of the main page, hat is a bit stale since it has been almost two years since the initial release. Thus, I would totally welcome if the main page was replaced with a more generic general theme over the Harry Potter Franchise. It just feels the “relevancy” feels a bit outdated. I like Peregino's suggestion regarding the seasonal changes. The MCU Wiki’s administration does it very well, and they do a good job of changing stuff around for the seasons. So I do like his suggestion. SeichanGrey (talk) 13:48, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

Hey everyone, I have made a quick modification to the main page. Let me know what you think of it. It basically is reverting to the 2020 edit, so that it looks more generic and such, so it would move away from Hogwarts Legacy as the focus and changes it to more on the broader Harry Potter franchise. I honestly think there should be multiple redesigns of the main page for 2025.

1. Generic one.
2. Second design would be for the 20th anniversary since the founding of the site. (2 July 2005
3. Third for the Audible release later this year.

I think the idea of changing the background seasonally is a good one, it would make the wiki feel more alive. How about for the 20th Anniversary, we change the page back to what it was in the first edit for a day? Perhaps with a notice at the top so as not to confuse people.
