Natsai "Natty"[3] Onai (b. 1874/1875) was a Zimbabwean witch who lived in the late 19th century. She originally attended Uagadou but later transferred to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she was Sorted into Gryffindor house.[5] Her mother was a professor of Divination.[6]
Biography[]
Early life[]
As an only child, she grew up in Matabeleland, Africa, with a tribe, wandering the Matobo Hills with her father who was a giraffe Animagus, and watching her mother use divination to help protect their tribe from less-than-friendly neighbours. Her father was killed protecting her by local bandits when she was nine years old. She and her mother later moved to Uganda where she attended Uagadou. During such time, she learned to be an Animagus, learning to transform into a gazelle.
Fourth year[]
Just before her fourth year, she transferred to Hogwarts when her mother took up a role as professor of Divination.[7] She had to learn how to use a wand at Hogwarts, as hardly anyone at Uagadou used one, and Natsai still found wandless magic to be more instinctive and convenient.[9] It took her weeks to get anything right when she transferred but it kept getting easier.[10]
Fifth year[]
During the 1890–1891 school year, Natsai took Ancient Runes as an elective class, which her mother had chosen for her.[11]
Befriending the new fifth-year[]
On 2 September 1890, when the new fifth-year student arrived at Charms class, she invited them to sit beside her. They played a game of Summoner's Court together. At the end of the lesson, they briefly spoke to each other where she told the student she was impressed with their skills. However, Professor Abraham Ronen thought she appeared to be distracted recently.[10]
Later that day, Natsai was a possible combatant during the troll attack on Hogsmeade, had she been invited by the student to visit Hogsmeade. However, it was also possible that they could have invited Sebastian Sallow instead.[12]
Overthrowing Ashwinders[]
Not long into the school year, she realised the harm the Ashwinders — Victor Rookwood's criminal gang — had caused to the wizarding community, especially through their alliance with Ranrok. Natsai decided she had to take action and be part of the solution.[13]
She and the new fifth-year snuck into Falbarton Castle, one of the headquarters of the Poacher Pack and the Ashwinders, where she intended to find evidence of Theophilus Harlow's criminal activities — Harlow being one of the Ashwinders' leaders — so that she could report him to Officer Singer. She succeeded, Summoning a letter outlining illicit plans straight from Harlow's hands before fleeing.[14]
On their way out, they discovered two imprisoned Hippogriffs — one of them being Highwing. The two freed them and escaped by riding the Hippogriffs out of the castle, while curses, including the Killing Curse, were hurled at them by the pursuing Ashwinders.[14]

Behind the scenes[]

Natsai Onai in Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions
- Natsai is voiced by English actress Jessica Hayles in Hogwarts Legacy.[18]
- Natsai appears in Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions as a character skin.
- It was established by J. K. Rowling that Hogwarts exclusively serves students from Great Britain and Ireland,[19] suggesting some ambiguity over Natsai's legal nationality. Although born and raised in Africa, her mother's new job still permits her to attend Hogwarts. It is unclear whether she was granted British citizenship, if the British Ministry of Magic permitted an exception, or what exactly the protocol for this situation was.
