What would you consider the length for a vignette? Can it be as high as 10,000 words, in a Joycean sort of stream-of-consciousness, as you say probing the meaning of? It sounds like a good alternative to an essay?

Thanks Jill!

A trilogy or series could fall into any of the above! You can also get a mixture, for instance a filler novella or short story to bridge a gap between two books, or add to the character development. Novellas are also quite popular spin-offs to develop side characters or expand on the world.

Would you consider a trilogy or series to be part of the structure you have outlined?
