It appeals to me on the rare occasion,like when used in a letter addressing someone else . In Sylvia Plaths the Bell Jar and Leonora Carringtons The Hearing Trumpet, the dialogue was hilarious though,very witty and ironic with brutal honesty. I love that!
Dialogue can come across as phoney as so seldom is the truth spoken. It’s all noise and deception. Only when dialogue is used hesitantly with suspense and intrigue, like slowly uncovering a truth about something is it enjoyable. My opinion of course.
