I don’t really know what to do with my very first nano novel— it made sense but… just no. I’m leaving it in a folder that edges closer towards the bin on a daily basis.
My more recent one, I’m giving a rest and then will almost definitely be coming back to. It needs some cleaning up, sure, but the characters are ok and the story is… well, understandable at least. It’ll need a lot of heavy editing but the hardest part will probably be making it PC in its depiction of a character I accidentally made to have bipolar disorder, although it’s not specifically labelled such at any point.

Will you try again at any point in the future?
Even if you want to go slower and just work on projects at your own pace, the forums are still a pretty good place to get research help, buddies to hold you accountable, have a place to vent about stuff etc.

Did you attempt it in 2019? Will you do it again this year?

I won NaNo for the first time in 2018– also the first time I had attempted it. Additionally I had never heard about NaNoWriMo until the 28th of October, three days before. But I managed to write a coherent 50k— through one factor. I’m not a naturally talented writer, I’m doing GCSE’s very soon, and I can’t take a week off to do nothing but write all day (some people save up all their work leave and take three quarters of November off). The one thing that let me ‘win’?
I WANTED IT.
I wanted it so badly. I NEEDED to win. So, I wrote every spare moment. I got thousands of words behind, and made it up the next week. I discovered that in fact, I only had three weeks to do it in, not four: there was a residential trip to Spain scheduled, on which I was not allowed to take any electronic devices.
I won my first NaNo, with no prep, in twenty five days.
Because I wanted to. And so I did.
